What if plastic waste could become a local resource?

Plastic arrives on the island every day, and much of it stays here long after it has been used.

The same bottle can take another path: recovered, prepared and remade into something the island can actually use — without leaving Zanzibar.

The process

Four steps, one bottle.

Simple, local, and repeatable — this is the process we are building and testing.

Recovered
PET bottles are collected before they end up in the environment.

They are sorted, cleaned and cut into one continuous strip.

Transformed
The strip becomes filament for 3D printing.

The filament is printed into new objects, here in Zanzibar.

A base in Kiwengwa
The pilot lab is being developed in Kiwengwa, on the east coast of Zanzibar.
A 3D printer on the island
A printer is already available locally and ready to be used for testing.
A filament machine
A machine to turn PET bottles into filament is available.
A process still to prove
The process has to be tested, improved and documented step by step.
First products in design
The first objects are still being designed and prototyped.
